Kent Knot – small knot

Including the number of steps, The Kent knot is the least complicated - also known as the "straight knot."”, although it is commonly referred to as a simple four-in-hand.

The smallest knot

The Kent Knot is also known as the "little knot."” and that term fits him very well: it has fewer entangling motions than four-in-hand. You can only make a knot with a certain trick (look down), which just makes, that it is more complicated than it seems at first.

Suitable application

It's hard to advise, what occasions it is best to tie Kent – a lot depends on the selected material and its quality. With light fabrics and narrow ties, the knot comes out very one-dimensional (flat) and very small. However, it's good to take advantage of it, when the only tie, which you have at your disposal (np. from the rental company), it is quite short, and you are tall. But – same as the oriental knot – Kent can be tied with wide ties or made of very thick material. Kent of silk, tweed or wool fit narrow or: only slightly wider collars and makes a good impression both at work, as well as at dinner in a restaurant.

Put a tie around your neck, how you used to do it. Depending on height, the narrow end may extend slightly lower than the normal starting position, because even less material is used for the knot than with Four-in-hand. Before you start tying, turn the wide end of the tie o 180 degrees. This twist stiffens the tie and makes it easier to form a knot with your next steps.
